Yesterday was my rheumatology appointment and the last thing the doctor told me was “I don’t know why you’re here, you’re too healthy” and I left. That is the first time I have ever been told I am “too healthy” for anything but that sent me out the door with a smile and great news: I exhibit no signs of rheumatoid arthritis. That is a weight off my shoulders as I have spent the last nearly fifteen years thinking I had RA and now I’m told I do not. Now I can continue running! The doctor yesterday gave me a very confused/disdainful look yesterday when I told him I run barefoot and in minimalist shoes, I apparently need thick cushioning in my shoes. I will leave that to a sports doctor to determine. Speaking of, I am scheduling that appointment today hopefully.
I am still losing weight although slowly, I just weighed in at 209.5lbs today. That is 1.3lbs since my last doctor’s visit and is just about on par with my planned per-week loss. I am currently researching new diets and lifestyles for my father who is morbidly obese. He is trying to lose weight so that he can hopefully become a candidate for weight reduction surgery. He is slowly losing his own weight but not fast enough for the doctor, he is supposed to lose 20lbs by the end of June and I believe he has lost just under 10lbs since May. I just hope he can continue to lose more but I feel he may be losing his motivation.
I too worry about losing motivation regarding my own weight loss and working out since I have hardly made any real dietary changes and I have not not run on a consistent basis in nearly a month. I believe if I keep thinking positively about the actual running and workouts I do, it will be easier for me to transition back into my routine here shortly enough. Since I have not been running regularly, I have been trying to do lower body stretches once or twice a day to just keep the legs more limber to help stave off potential injury. We will see what happens when I get back to it though, I may have to back down on the miles a small bit to get my legs re-acclimated to running.
